ABOUT US

HISTORY…

A short evening of tall stories was born out of a passionate desire to bring people together,  give voice to contemporary Australian fiction and to bring new quality stories to Adelaide audiences.

The writers whose work is read are all published Australian authors. Many have received prizes for their writing. Writers include: Julie Chevalier, Jennifer Mills, A.S. Patric, Tricia Dearborn, Tom Cho, Ryan O'Neill, Josephine Rowe, Susan McCreery, Kim Westwood, Cameron Raynes, Threasa Meads and Maree Dawes.

The readers are professional Adelaide actors with years of performance experience including Craig Behenna, Holly Myers, Patrick Frost, Tamara Lee, Kerry Reid, Hew Parham, Nick Garsden, Roy Phung and Ashton Malcolm.

Caroline Reid - writer and general lover of short stories and actors - curated two successful evenings of readings in 2011 at The Jolly Miller Tavern. In 2012 The Wheatsheaf Hotel came on board to host the events. The aim is to present  four times a year - in Feburary, May, August and November.

The quality of writers, performers, and venue makes these story-readings unique events of excellence on Adelaide's arts calendar.

"I don't know who to congratulate but I attended 'Spineless' event at The Wheaty here in Adelaide last night and it was brill! Readings, vocal group, mc-ing all top class. The show was a real credit to all who organised."

SPINELESS WONDERS …

SPINELESS WONDERS PRESENTS …
is the performance leg presented in Adelaide. A platform for Australian writers to have their work read by professional actors, and for the public to indulge in the simple pleasure of being read to.

HOW IT WORKS…
A short evening of tall stories is a brief night of entertainment, in keeping with the spirit of short fiction; perfect for a mid-week outing. Beginning at 7.30pm, stories are read over two sets. A local musician plays original songs before the readings and between brackets. Presented free of charge to the public, funds donated go directly to the artists.

Spineless Wonders Presents... gratefully acknowledges the time, talent and effort of all participating artists; the generosity of The Wheatsheaf Hotel; and the enthusiasm of  Adelaide audiences.
